What is a polymorphic trait? Provide two examples of polymorphic traits in modern humans.

Answer #1

Polymorphism is a discontinuous genetic variation resulting in the occurrence of several different forms and types of individuals among the members of a single species.

examples: (in human)

1. All the basic blood classifications(blood groups), for example, the ABO blood group systems are hereditary polymorphisms. Here we see a framework where there are more than two transforms: the phenotypes A, B, AB and O are available in every human populace, however, change in extent in various parts of the world. The phenotypes are controlled by numerous alleles at one locus. These polymorphisms are apparently never disposed of by characteristic choice.

2.The genes of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) have highly polymorphic characteristics which play an important role in resistance to infectious pathogens.

You are examining two traits of a plant called Trait A and Trait B. Each trait is associated with a different gene on a different chromosome. Trait A shows: the same phenotype for both the heterozygous and homozygous dominant allele combinations a different phenotype for the homozygous recessive allele combination. Trait B shows: three different phenotypes, each associated with only one of the three possible allele combinations. A) Describe the type of inheritance associated with Trait A and describe the...

Try to imagine what humans will be like in 500,000 years. What physical traits will change in modern Homo Sapiens? Why do you think that these changes will occur-what factors will lead to the evolution of new/different traits? Think about primarily physiological changes, but you may also include social or behavioral changes as a supplement. Which of the ‘four’ces of evolution will be most important for these changes as the human race continues to evolve and adapt?
