1)
a) What is the total number of energy producing molecules are made from glycolysis to Krebs cycle and what types?
b) What is the intermediate step between glycolysis and the Krebs Cycle? Explain in detail
Question 1 a)
1. Glycolysis- 2 ATPs and 2 NADH (per glucose)
2. Transition Step - 2 NADH (per glucose)
3. Krebs Cycle -2GTP (equivalent to 2 ATP), 6NADH, 2FADH2 (per glucose)
b) Transition step known as pyruvate decarboxylation connects glycolysis and kerb cycle involves conversion of pyruvate to Acetyl-CoA. It involves three enzymes collectively called pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC). Two molecules of pyruvate formed by one glucose molecule in glycolysis will produce energy molecules 2 NADH.
