Suppose that a mutation occurs in an intron of a gene encoding a protein, changing the sequence of one nucleotide within the intron. What would be the most likely effect of this mutation on the amino acid sequence of that protein? Briefly explain your answer
There will be no effect on the amino acid sequence of the protein. It is because the change in intron is not going to change the amino acid sequence. Lets start with the gene sequence, the gene has two different types of sequences exons and introns. The exons are the gene sequeces which are expressed in gene expression forming polypeptides while introns do not code for protein but they form integral part of regulatory systems in protein expression. Hence change in intron sequence doesnot alter the protein sequence.
