Import of proteins into the mitochondrial matrix requires the following factors: (select all that apply)

TOM complex

HSP70

TIM complex

ATP

GT

I put TOM complex, HSP70, and ATP came up as partially correct.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

It came partially correct because although TOM complex , HSP70 and ATP are required, TIM Complex is also important. TOM complex helps in transport through outer membrane and TIM Complex helps in transport through the inner membrane. HSP70 helps to keep the protein in an unfolded state during the transport and ATP is required for the entire process.

We can see the transport mechanism in the image above. It provides us with a rough idea of mitochondrial transport.

Kindly rate if this was helpful.
