1)
a) Which 3 steps during glycolysis are important for oxidative phosphorylation?
b) What is the importance of FADH2 and NADH in cellular respiration?
a).
The following three steps are improtant for oxidative phosphorylation in glycolysis.
Step 6:
Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate + NAD+--------1,3-bisphosphoglycerate + NADH
Step 9:
1,3-bisphosphoglycerate + ADP-----3-phosphoglycerate + ATP
Step 10:
Phosphoenolpyruvate + ADP --------Pyruvate + ATP
b).
NADHs are produced in glycolysis and Kreb's cycle whereas FADH2s are produced in Kreb's cycle only. They are affixed with electrons and are transferred to the inner membrane of the mitochondria. They travel in electron transport chaing to produce ATP synthesis, which is the energy rich molecule. Hence, NADH & FADH2 produce energy in cellular respiration.
