Vitamin K is fat soluble vitamin that is importnat for blood coagulation. The blood coagulation process involves different factors like factor II, factor VII, Factor X. The process of blood clotting involves the conversion of Prothrombin (inactive form) to Thrombin (active form) which is catalyzed by the vitamin K- dependent carboxylase. In the presence of Vitamin K as cofactor, carboxylase bind to calcium ion and facilitate the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin. Active thrombin converts fibrinogens to fibrin (mesh) and block the blood flow.
