Bad cholesterol = LDL (Low-density lipoprotein)

HDL takes up LDL from the bloodstream and prevents its accumulation in the arteries.

Optimal level of bad cholesterol in the body = <100 mg/dL

Optimal level of good cholesterol in the body = >50 mg/dL (For men)

HDL is more protective than LDL. High levels of LDL predispose a person to heart stroke. LDL is mostly obtained from animal foods. HDL is present in plant foods. The level of HDL in the body is also affected by the physical activity.
