My professor is going over the six stages of nervous system development. He went over synaptic pruning, but wasn't really clear what stage it was in, either stage 4 which is synaptogensis or the last stage (6) which is synaptic rearrangement, can anyone clear this up for me?
THE NERVOUS SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT OCCURS IN 6 STAGES
1.NEURAL INDUCTION & PROLIFERATION
2.MIGRATION
3.DIFFERENTIATION
4.SYNAPTOGENESIS
5.CELL DEATH
6.SYNAPTIC REARRANGEMENT
THE SYNAPTIC PRUNING WILL HAPPEN IN THE STAGE 6 WHICH IS THE SYNAPTIC REARRANGEMENT.SYNAPTIC PRUNING ELIMINATES THE WEAKER SYNAPTIC CONNECTIONS OR THE ONES THAT ARE NOT USED OFTEN AND WILL STRENGTHEN THE IMPORTANT ONES THERE BY MAKING THE BRAIN MORE EFFICIENT..SYNAPTIC PRUNING HAPPEN IN DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE BRAIN AT DIFFERENT TIMES.
