Answer #1

Mitochondria are the organelles known as powerhouses of the cell because of their crucial role in synthesizing ATP. This suggests that they are very much important organelles. Any small mutation leading to a structural defect in any of the genes in mitochondria could lead to a crucial problem for cell. Based on the site of mutation, wide range of problems and risks are associated. The defects are much more pronounced in mitochondria when compared to other organelles. It can lead to parkinson’s disease, neuronal dysfunction etc.
