Answer the following microbiology questions about microorganisms:
1.) The organisms in the air, do they live permanently there? Explain
2.) What are nosocomial diseases?
3.) How do microorganisms affect: water quality, quality of food, patients and hospital staff?
4.) Explain why microorganisms in the environment are important.
1. The organisms in the air cannot live permanently. However, if the surrounding air is contagious or unhygenic then it ensures the mircroorganisms continously multiply and survive.
2. Nosocomial diseases are hospital-acquired infections which are caused by viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens and mostly cause urinary tract infections, pneumonia, surgical site infections among others.
3. Microorganisms contaminate water, food, patients and hospital staff. They get resistant to antibiotics and pass on the resistant gene to other bacteria which makes it very difficult to control their growth.
4. Microrganisms are important part of ecology. They are important decomposer and act as natural recycler. They help balance the nutrient cycle.
