Lower resting heart rate was a robust correlate of violent and non-violent crime for persons.  individuals with low resting heart rates have increased risk for violence. Heart rate is affected by the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system, which in turn is influenced by the central autonomic network comprising cortical, limbic and midbrain structures. Low resting heart rate might correlate with violence because it indicates fearlessness or a state of low autonomic arousal, which causes sensation-seeking behaviour including violence.
