Consider phosphofructokinase, which statement is true?

Fructose -2,6-bisphosphate and ATP inhibit the enzyme.
High ATP activates the enzyme; fructose -2,6-bisphosphate inhibits the enzyme.
Low ATP activates the enzyme; fructose -2,6-bisphosphate inhibits the enzyme.
Fructose -2,6-bisphosphate activates the enzyme and high ATP inhibits the enzyme.
None of the above.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans) Fructose -2,6-bisphosphate activates the enzyme and high ATP inhibits the enzyme.

Phosphofructokinase one of the main regulatory enzyme of the glycolytic pathway. It is involved in the conversion of fructose 6 phosphate to fructose 1, 6 bisphosphate. This enzyme allosterically regulated by many activators and inhibitors. The Phosphofructokinase is activated by the ADP, AMP, cyclic AMP, NH3, high pH, fructose 6 phosphate, fructose 1,6 phosphate, fructose 2,6 phosphate. It is inhibited by the high ATP, citrate, phopho enol pyruvate.
