What is the significance of IL-17 for Giardia immunity? What cells are involved in secreting IL-17, what Giardia antigens are invovled and is the response innate, humoral or cell-mediated? Provide an explanation using the research article to support your response.
Giardia is involved as pathogen of diaorrhea and IL-17 are important cytokines in the providinp immunity against the pathogen These cytokines are relaesered from the TL-17 T-cells. These activates the host defence in the intestine by incrsaincrethe defenece molecules like beta defensin in the cell. First response is the inflammation caused by the IL-17 cytokines indicating the pathogen attack and stimulating the intestine for the production of defensins. Hence it is a cell mediated response.
