Compare the pathogenesis of giardiasis, amebiasis and trichomoniasis. How are the three infections acquired?
All the three diseases are caused by protozoan infections.
Giardiasis, is caused by infection with Giardia lamblia in small intestines. It results in abdominal cramps with nausea and bouts. The protozoan is mostly found in poor sanitation and transmitted by contaminated food or water.
Amebiasis is caused by infection with Entamoeba histolytica. It results in amebic dysentery with pain, stools and fever. The infection is acquired by drinking contaminated fruits, water etc.
Trichomonasis is a sexually transmitted disease and is caused by a parasite known as trichomonas vaginalis. Symptoms of disease varies with individual.
