There are different assays that are use to test chemotaxis
1. Agar/ gelatine plate techniques- two small wells are make in the agar-agar or gelatine plate for the cells and substance to be tested and monitor the movement of cells towards the substance.
2. Boyden chamber- A semi porous membrane is used to create two chamber. Cells to be tested are loaded in the upper chamber while the substance are loaded in the lower chamber. The movement of cells to the lower chamber is counted or visualized under microscope.
3. Bridge chamber- Two horizontal chamber are connected by a bridge that cells can be moved.
