Why do you think that HbS molecules would be likely to clump together whereas HB A molucules do not?
HBS molecule stick together because a mutation occurs in the haemoglobin which results in change in the amino acid in the beta chain which is hydrophobic in nature.
In HBA the amino acid is Glutamic acid while it is Valine in HBS.
This hydrophobic nature reduces the solubility of the haemoglobin molecules leading to clump to each other which leads to the deformed cells.
HBA with Glutamic acid is hydrophilic in nature which does not stick together.
