what effect does diuretic have on the body? How does it's action affect homeostasis of fluid balance?
Substances which increases the rate of urine production are called diuretics. These substances strongly influence the osmoregulation. Sometimes diuretics can cause dehydration, hypokalemia (reduced concentration of potassium), hyponatremia (reduced concentration of sodium), hypercalcemia (increased concentration of calcium), metabolic alkalosis and metabolic acidosis.
Since these molecules increase the water excretion, they affect homeostasis of fluid balance by reducing the concentration of sodium and potassium in our body.
