Which of the following are characteristics of fungi?

Cells lack a nucleus

Are heterotrophic

Are Autrophic

Cells lack Chlorplasts

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Fungi are heterotrophic and their celss lack chloroplasts.

Autotrophic organisms are those that can synthesize their own food, For e.g.plants are autotrophic. They utilize the light energy and convert it into chemical energy. This process requires chlorophyll which is found in organelles called chloroplasts, Since fungi are hetertrophic they feed by absorbing nutrients from their environment and hence do not require chloroplasts.

Since fungi are eukaryotic cells, they have a nucleus. Prokaryotes like bacteria lack a nucleus.

Hypothetical Marine Ecosystem: What's a good conclusion, a eukaryotic predatory microbe that feeds on heterotrophic bacteria can only survive if suplemented with food, or they starve due to lack of resource. 1) The eukaryotic microbes are being outcompeted for organic matter by predatory photoatutrophic bacteri 2) Viruses are lysing bacteria cells, preventing organic matter from reaching the higher level of the microbial food web. 3) Even higher levels of the food web, such as vertebrates, are sonsuming the available heterotrophic...

Fungi Fungi are the great decomposers of the biosphere. Most plants form mycorrhizae with fungi to increase absorptive area without having to grow more roots, in this relationship fungi recieve carbohydrates from plants. Humans consume fungi, mushrooms, may use fungi as a source of drugs for blood pressure, antibiotics and immunosuppresive drugs. Fungi are used in biotechnology to produce fermetation products, and some have been very useful models to study gentics in eukaryotic cells that are unicellular such as yeasts....
