I did a LAB today and my theoretical ph values didn't match with the actual ph value.

the LAB was about serial dilution of 0.1M HCl. do you know why...?

This theoretical and practical mismatch occurs in acid base titrations. This is more so because the HCL solutions as well as the NaOH solutions are usually difficult to prepare. This difference is because of the fact that there may be problems in the mixture homogeneity. Such smaller concentration gradient might be very difficult to rule out, since titrations are generally performed by hand mixing and mixing here plays the major role. Moreover, With ph values lower than 4, there is a greater chance that there would be formation of carbonic acid and the concentration of dissolved carbon dioxide would increase. There might also be a chance that the electrode may not be properly calibrated. Also, an electronic mixer could be used for preparing the mixes, in order to avoid such problems.

I did a lab and it's asking for the theoretical pH with the addition of HCl. The procedure:measure out 5.0ml of 1.0ml sodium acetate solution in a 100 ml graduated cylinder. dilute the 5.0 ml w/ water to a final volume 50.0 mL&stir.measure out 1.00ml of 1.0 M NaOH&add it to the sodium acetate solution.stir the mixture.calculate the theoretical pH.

For my organic chem lab, we need to do a serial dilution of a sample so that it can be used in a mass spec. If we start out with .1g of an unknown compound in 10ml of DCM, how can we get it to 1000ppb concentration? I have never worked with ppb and don't know how to do the calculations, please explain step by step.

My lab is calling for me to calculate the hypochlorite molarity in bleach. The actual question is as follows: Determine the average hypochlorite molarity in each bleach sample based on the molarity and volume of standardized thiosulfate solution to reach the end point, the overall reaction stoichiometry, and the volume of the sample tritrated. I know the molarity and volume of the standardized thiosulfate solution (which is 0.157 M and 7.75 mL respectively) And I also know the volume of...

So I did a titration lab where were reacted various amounts of Mg with 10mL of HCL and then neutralized the raction with NaOH. I have my table of values for Mass of Mg (g), Initial Volume NaOH (mL), Final Volume NaOH (mL), End Point Volume (mL), Limiting Reagent (Mg or HCL). There is a Titration table I need to fill in that asks for Moles of Mg (mol), Moles of NaOH (mol) and Moles of H+ reacting with Mg...

Hi, I did a lab on ROTATIONAL KINEMATICS and I'm having a little trouble answering the questions at the end of the lab. For this lab, we used an object attach to a parallel shaft that spins. There was a hanging mass attached to the shaft that made the object spin. We then recorded the times for two different methods. These methods were PART A). Angular Position Versus Time, and PART B). Angular Velocity versus Time. Once done, we were...

My Post Lab questions are asking me this about my caffeine experiment. "You perform a TLC experiment on a product that you obtained in the lab. When you put it under the UV lamp, you see only one spot. Upon further analysis, however, you realize that there are actually two compounds in the sample. Give two reasons why this could happen, and then suggest how you could modify the experiment to overcome each one" I do not know why this...

I did two wavelength vs absorbance graphs. one for copper and one for brass in my chem lab. I plotted them. The copper had a lambda max of about 680 nm. The brass at 380 nm. At middle wavelengths the two were about the same. The copper started to increase in absorbance over the brass at about 580 nm. By looking at this info why can I say that brass has other elements besides copper in it?
