Adaptive immunity consists of both virus-specific antibodies generated by humoral immunity and cell-mediated immunity directed by virus-specific CD4 and CD8 T cells. Describes how a body cell infected with a virus interacts with the MHC molecule?
When virus infect a body cell it invade inside the cell and our immune system cannot find the virus. The virus replicate and survive inside the cell. This problem is solved by MHC molecule. The virus produces some new protein inside the cell. Some of the viral protein tagged for degradation enters endoplasmic reticulum and here MHC molecule bind with it. MHC class 1 molecules display these protein on the surface of the cell. This may also occur via interferon. An infected cell produce small amount of interferon which play a role in protection from virus. This also act as signal which trigger the presentation of MHC molecule upon the surface of the cells. This enables T-cell to identity and eliminate the virus.
