Capsid are protein shell around the virion particles and the ability of virus to transfer genetic information is incase in Capsid. But capsid protein are non homologous to cellular protein. Evolution of capsid may be by -

Selfish Plasmids or transposon started coding Capsid by diversification or overprinting.

Capsid proteins were functional in cellular activities but after they were hired to encapse the viral genome by some modifications.

The viral gemone is unable to infact without Capsid except virions.
