explain the concept of cross referencing patient in the mpi give an example

MPI is the abbreviation of Master Patient Index, which is a database containing identifiers for patients that have been registered in the health care organisation. This system makes sure that every patient would be having a proper registration application such that same data would be found in all the systems. Cross referencing system in patient identification is referred to as the Patient identifier cross referencing (PIX). Cross referencing is helpful since:

  • There would not be compromise of any of the policies that occur across the various platforms.
  • There would be provision of interoperability along with flexibility maintenance that could be utilised with the various cross referencing policies.
