Ans-

The large intestine, also known as, the colon is the part of gastrointestinal tract and of digestive system in vertebrates. The final steps of digestion are carried out here. It is a highly specialized organ for processing of waste so that bowel movement becomes easy. The vital function performed by large intestine is of converting food into feces, absorbing essential vitamins produced by gut bacteria such as Vitamin K, Vitamin B12, thiamine, riboflavin. It absorbs water from the remaining indigestible food and throw out the useless food material from the body.
