Theory in any sciences is a proven fact with rigorous experimentation and proofs . It is not a hypothesis , or someone's phylosophy saying that this might be this. Theory is a proven fact. So anything which has proven fundamentals , proven through experimentations , could be biological experiments, physicical or anything, is a theory. So how can something like that have two possibilities, an unproven hypothesis might have alternate ideas , but a theory for a fact can't have.
