Light undergoes refraction when passed from one medium to other. Using dry objective lenses.
there will be a loss of resolution when 400x magnification is used. In such cases oil immersion
microscopy is essential. Oil placed between the cover slip and objective lens eliminates the
two refractive indices and thus good magnification can be attained with perfect resolution.
Care must be taken so that oil should be in contact otherwise image will be distorted and also
may damage the coatings.
