Explain the difference between equilibrium and set point within the human body in detail. (physiology)
Homeostasis or equilibrium of human body is defined as the stable condition of the body and its internal environment. It is the balance of bodily functions. Equilibrium is necessary for the optimal functioning of the organism and is dependent on many variables such as fluid and electrolyte balance and body temperature.
Set point is the fixed point for certain variables such as temperature. The temperature set point in our body is fixed at 96.4 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature set point is controlled by hypothalamus and any deviation from the set point will stimulate the receptors present in the hypothalamus.
