Your experiment determined that an individual plant has a transpiration rate of 4.5 mL/hr. Assuming the transpiration rate is the same throughout the day, how much water (in L) would you need for 200 plants to counter act their transpiration throughout a day with 12 hours of daylight?
ANSWER-
There is no direct formula to calculate transpiration,as various type of factors determine the rate of transpiration, here in the question, the the rate of transpiration is already determined, and it is constant and steady at the rate of 4.5ml/hr
as the transpiration occurs at the same rate throughout the day , therefore, transpiration carried out by one plant in a day would be
12* 4.5 = 54
54ml in a day by one plant
for 200 plants,the rate would be, 200*54=
10800 ml of water in a day for 200 plants.
as in the question ,it is asked for litres, therefore, 10800 ml divided by 1000 would be 10.8ltrs.
thus 10.8ltrs litre of water would be required to counter the effect of transpiration in the given set up.
