7. Mode of action of enzymes (Bibliography)
Enzymes combine with substrates to give rise to enzyme substrate complex (ES). These enzyme substrate complex decomposes into free enzyme (E) and products (P). The substrate usually binds to the active site of the enzyme and each active site is different. Various forces such as hydrogen bonding, interaction of electrostatic groups and hydrophobic groups, operates in the biding of the substrate in the active site.
Certain enzymes (allosteric enzymes) possess two binding sites. The final product plays a major role in controlling the activation of enzyme. If the end product is in excess, then it stops the binding of the substrate by altering the enzyme structure.
