7. Two genes lie 3 Mb apart on human chromosome 2. On average, the map distance between these loci would be 3 cM. Under what circumstances might the map distance be considerably larger or smaller than 3 cM? Explain your answer.

Answer #1

The map distance can increase or decrease due to the presence of chromosomal aberrations. The chromosomal aberrations that woud change the map distance are: translocation, duplication and deletion.

There is an increase in the map distance in case translocation and duplication of the chromosome takes place.

There is a decrease in the map distance in case deletion of the chromosome takes place. In case there is deletion of a few gene between the two gene under focus there would be a decrease in the map distance.

Students in a physics lab set up an apparatus to study the collisions between two lab carts. They affix identical springs at opposite ends of the track. They place a small cart on the left side of the track and a larger, more massive cart on the right side of the track. IN numerous trials, the students press the carts against the springs and then release them from rest such that they are launched towards eachother. The carts are affixed...

A. The human eye 1. Whenever a normal eye forms an image, the image distance will always equal the distance from the cornea and eye lens to the retina (~25 mm), regardless of how far away the object is located. Explain why the image distance cannot change. 2. If the image distance must change, then what intrinsic property of the eye lens must change in order for the eye to focus on objects at different distances? Hint: read the Introduction....
