Two differences between endospore and vegetative cells are:

  • Cell wall composition : Endospores have thick cell walls with exosporium, spore coat, cortex and the core. Cells have a thinner cell wall consisting of peptidoglycan and liposaccharides.
  • Resistance towards acids : Endospores are very resistant to Hydrogen peroxide and other acids.

These adpatation helps the endospores survive in very harsh conditions. These endoscopes have the ability to germinate again if favourable conditions are present, even after thousands of years of resting phase. Thick spore wall and resistance torwards chemicals, helps the spores to resist any damage and hence prevents the extincttion of the bacterial species.
