Since, the colon harbours different kind of microorganisms, which can interfere with the isolation of one particular microorganism, we need to use a media which will promote the growth of a single microbe, while inhibiting the growth of others. Selective media is used to culture Clostridium difficile. This media is known as cycloserine cefoxitine fructose agar. It contains antibiotics, such as cycloserine and cefoxitine, which inhibits the growth of other microorganisms, and distinct colonies of C.difficile are obtained.
