  1. Promoter is the site where RNA polymerase binds to perform transcription, prokaryotic operons expression helps in generation of polycistronic mRNAs, while eukaryotic operons lead to monocistronic mRNAs.
  2. Proteins produced are linked to each other and help in performing functions together such as in case of lac operon where the genes are like lacZ, which encodes the enzyme β-galactosidase (which splits lactose into glucose and galactose); , lacY, which encodes lactose permease; and lacA, which encodes a lactose transacetylase, they together perform the function of using lactose in absence of glucose.
