Question: Consumers in a food chain will consume organisms above them and below them. True or False?

Answer: False

Consumers in a food chain will consume organisms below them and themselves get consumed by organisms above them. Ecosystem consists of several tropic levels of organism formed by producers, consumers, and decomposers. These organisms of each tropic level form the part of a food chain based on what they eat and what eats them. At the base of these tropic levels are the producers eg. all green plants. The next trophic level above the producers consists of the primary consumers that consume only producers. The next trophic level contains the secondary consumers that consume primary consumers as well as producers.Tertiary consumers form the next trophic level which feed on secondary consumers. Thus consumers in a food chain will consume organisms below them.
