RNA interference technology is employed to silence the expression of particular mRNA molecule/s by hampering their tramslation. The said technology executes its effect via siRNA and miRNA. These aee 20-22 short nucleotide sequences that bind to the target mRNA and cause it to degrade. This technology finds application both in vivo as well as in vitro. It forms a defence by various bacteria against invading viruses. Besides it is employed to silence the expression of particular gene and hence evaluate its function.

Besides Drosha and RISC complex are involved in degradation of target mRNA. Argonaute is an important component of RISC that induces cleavage.
