Auxin plays an important role in regulating the stem meristem and elongation stem elongation besides deciding the fate of meristems. Owing to thsese reasons it has therefore been declared a meristem architecture shaping hormone.The shoot apical meristem is responsible for production of lateral organs and maintainkng the growing stem. The lateral organs are arranged in a slecific pattern which is termed as phyllotaxis. However, the initiation of an organ in the periphree of the meristem involves accumulation of the auxin which is transported by carriers located at the membranes. These transporters include PIN.
