If an Viral variant were created that had no reverse transcriptase then it would not effect the course of infection and disease disease in an infected individual, because reverse transcriptase transcribes virul RNA into provirul DNA which is then formed into the DNA of host cell in nucleus of infected cell of infected individual. So, without reverse transcriptase enzyme virul variant genome can't be able to incorporate into the host cell. As a result new virul RNA would not be produced and hence new virul protein would not be produced.
