Ans 1) Function of Condensor :
It is needed for collection and focusing the light on the specimen. It is situated under the specimen and above the source of light.
Condensor is kept at highest point for optimum viewing of specimen using oil immersion lens.

Diaphragm :

Its function is to control the amount of light that reaches to the specimen. It is situated over the condensor and moreover , diaphragm not stopped down too much in the oil immersion lens for viewing the specimen.

Diaphragm range is based on that how much light is required.

Ans 2) In order to make specimen easier to see , the microscope makers does not use 100x ocular lenses because it makes almost impossible to find the specimen into the focus.
It also makes the specimen larger and it would become difficult to see the specimen as whole.
