When a outside pathogen invades any organ system of an organism, and upon being identified as foreign, if the pathogen triggers the immune reaction, it is known to be an infection.

Infection can spread through various means, like through touch, through blood or other liquids. Viral infections can spread through outer means also. Infections can be classified as bacterial, viral, fungal, parasites, prions etc.

different types of infection trigger different types of immune response.
