Various
pathogens utilize the intracellular compartment of the host as a
niche for immune evasion and replication. The main pathway
involved in intracellular survival of pathogens is when the
bacteria are taken up by macrophages inside a phagosome. The
pathogen including phagosome, however, is not able to combine with
lysosomes and mature. no combination allows survival and growth of
bacteria.
This is accomplished by:
destabilising endosomal trafficking.
reconstruction of the phagosome into a congenial vacuole.
supporting phagosomal membrane splitting and escaping to the
cytosol.
