S. aureus appears purple under the microscope. Describe how you expect the cell envelope layers of S. aureus would appear.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans) S. aureus is a gram positive round shaped bacteria and the cell envelope layer consists of :

  1. Inner membrane
  2. Cell wall
  3. Thick layer of peptidoglycan.

The outer membrane is absent in S. aureus.

  • Also, the cell wall consist of less lipid, but teichoic acid is present.
  • Usually, the cell wall of gram positive bacteria's are Smooth textured.
  • The thick layer of peptidoglycan will retain the Primary stain of gram staining and appear purple of Crystal violet.
