A pale person goes out into the sun, and later their skin darkens (tans). This is due to

Group of answer choices

Altered gene presence

Altered gene expression

Phenotype becoming dominant

Genotype becoming dominant

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A person that goes out into sun, after which the skin gets darkened (tanned). This phenomenon occurs due to altered gene expression. It is because when a person is lying indoors, there is no tanning happening; therefore there is no production of melanin occuring. But out in sun, to prevent the occurence of skin cancer, pigment known as melanin is released which makes the skin darker. This is known as altered gene of expression.

Hence, the correct option is (b)

About the incorrect options-

(a), (c) and (d) - There is no such thing like this. These mechanisms do not exist.

Hope it helps

You carry out an F2 cross (with a male heterozygote and a female heterozygote) for this gene, which we will call “Eyeless” or “e”. You get the following progeny: 2/3 of the drosophila are wild-type phenotype (e+), 1/3 of the drosophila are small eyes phenotype (e). Which of the following genetics best explains your results? Group of answer choices Eyeless is autosomal dominant with a heterozygote advantage. Eyeless is codominant. Eyeless is autosomal recessive with a lethal allele. Eyeless is...

A person studies tweety birds that have a generation time of 1 year. He goes out and samples allelic variation at a gene that is on the Z chromosome (male birds are homogametic and have 2 copies of ZZ while females are heterogametic and have one copy of Z and one W). In his population, he notices that the frequency of a SNP in the gene he is studying is 75% in males and 25% in females. How close to...

4. If you can taste the chemical PTC, it means you have at least one copy of a dominant gene for (that will be C). If you can't taste it, you have two copies of the recessive allele for tasting PTC- (that will be c) therefore making a non-taster's genotype cc). A man who can taste PTC marries a woman who can also taste PTC. Both partners each have one parent who cannot taste PTC and one who can. If...

Probability and Genetics Lab In heredity, we are concerned with the occurrence, every time an egg is fertilized, of the probability that a particular gene or chromosome will be passed on through the egg, or through the sperm, to the offspring. As you know, genes and chromosomes are present in pairs in each individual, and segregate as they go into the gametes (egg and sperm). There are two possible genes (alleles) that the egg or sperm might obtain from each...
