Intrinsic pathway is activated when endothelium ruptures and PF3 is released by aggregated platelets while extrinsic pathway is activated in response to tissue cell trauma and tissue factor (TF) is released.

Steps of common pathways : prothrombin activator is activated in presence of Ca2+, PF3 and Factor V. This prothrombin activator activates thrombin which in turn will convert fibrinogen to fibrin and fibrin is cross-linked in the presence of Ca2+ and factor VII.
