Describe the three structural components of an RNA nucleotide monomer. Explain the role of RNA polymerase during transcription.
Answer) The three structural components of an RNA nucleotide
monomer are :
A nitrogenous base
A pentose ribose sugar
A phosphate group
In a RNA monomer the nitrogenous base is attached to ribose sugar
which further attaches to the phosphate groups.
The four bases of RNA are adenine, uracil, guanine, and
cytosine.
RNA polymerase is an enzyme used in the process of transcription, it binds to DNA sequence and unwinds it, synthesises RNA sequence from DNA template. RNA polymerase have many different functions during transcription like addition of nucleotide to the growing chain of RNA, coping DNA, unwinding and separating DNA and so on.
