What are the advantages and disadvantages to serological assays compared to plate counting?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans- the plate counting method is simple technique in which antigen or antibody are observed amd counted with the help of microacope while in serological assay specific tool and techniques are required. The advantage of serological assay over plate counting include that chances of error are very less in these assays and their result are interpreted by production of a visible reaction which may be agglutination or some other type of reaction which will produce some colour or fluoroscence. The other advantages include that these can be enhanced by using some associated instrument like colorimeter or spectrometer.

Disadvantage include that these are time consuming as compared to plate method and in these assays we have to provide specific conditions and environment for reaction to occur.
