Protozoans are single celled organisms which varie from amoeba (that can change shape) to paramecieum (fixed). Some of the different group of organisms under protozoa are:

  • Rhizopoda: This phyllum contains the amoebas. The only protozoans which does not possess hard coverings. Example - Amoeba has pseudopodia which helps in movement. It does not possess any fixed shape.
  • Dino-flagellate: This protozoan uses flagella for movement. It uses vesicles to create a rigid form. Example- oodinium.
  • Ciliophora: This protozoan unlike others uses cilia for movement. Protozoans in this phyllum may be sessilie or free swiming. Example - paramecieum
  • Stramenopila: It includes diatoms to golden or brown alage. The cells of the organisms are supported by scales and shells for support. Example- diatoms.
