Lymph is the interstitial fluid that enters the lymphatic vessels through the capillaries. The lymph that is in lymphatic vessels is carried upwards by muscle contraction enters the blood at neck region.

The lymph that travels through lymphatic vessels encounters lymph nodes where it gets mixed with antibodies to eliminate pathogens. Thus lymph nodes acting as the sites for defense.

Lymph directly enters the blood in jugular vein at the neck. It does not reach the heart. Heart is not inolved in the lymphatic system.
