Heterospory are morphologically dissimilar spores produced from two types of sporangia :microspore and megaspore.

It is of great biological adwantage. In Heterospory megaspore is independent of external conditions because it derive food from sporophyte .So it is the better starting point of new embryo .

In it development of zygote takes place in megaspore. This retention and germination of megaspore within megasporangium ensure proper development of zygote. The evolution of seed habit is related to retention of megaspore.
