What is a strobolis? How is this different from the arrangement of sporangia in the non-vascular plants?
Strobilus = Sporangia bearing reproductive structure composed of sporophylls/scales arranged spirally around a central axis.
Strobili are found in Lycophytes, horsetails, and gymnosperms.
A strobilus contains a cluster of many sporangia.
In non-vascular plants such as algae, fungi, and bryophytes, the spores are produced in a specialized structure known as sporangium. In these plants, the plant body often produces a single sporangium at a site. They are not clustered. In bryophytes, we can observe clusters of archegonia and antheridia. They do not contain sporophylls or scales on which sporangia are formed. They are usually borne on a stalk protruding from the gametophyte.
