Answer #1

Describe the biological and taxonomical significant of 16S rRNA.

The 16s rRNA is one of the components of the 30s subunit, present in the prokaryotic ribosomes. This would be binding to shine delgarno sequence. This is important as it would be used for reconstruction of phylogenies since, this part of the domain does not evolve at a fast rate, this part could be used for studying evolutionary relationships. There are many functions of the 16s rRNA, which are as follows:

  • This part acts a scaffolding part.
  • There are anti shine delgarno sequences present at the 3’ end, which would be binding upstream to AUG sequence. This would be binding to the S1 as well as S21 Encinitas were importwfn in protein synthesis.
  • It would also be interacting with the 23s unit which would be aiding in the binding of both the subunits if ribosomes.

Photosynthetic eukaryotes have genes for rRNA in their nuclei, mitochondria, and chloroplasts. Based on what you know about the origins of mitochondria and chloroplasts, which of the statements below would best describe the evolutionary relationship between the rRNA genes found in these three organelles? a. Mitochondrial, chloroplast, and nuclear rRNA are all derived from distant relatives. b. There is no reason to assume that any of the three rRNA genes are similar to closely or distantly related relatives. c. Mitochondrial...
