Fill in the blanks. Bacterial genome size dependent mainly on ________ of genes and eukaryotic genomes vary more in size due to ________ DNA.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Bacterial genome size dependent mainly on NUMBER of genes and eukaryotic genomes vary more in size due to NONCODING DNA.

Find the below explanation

The size of bacterial or prokaryotic DNA direclty depends on the number genes which is present in that organism because, as there is no split genes or no noncoding sequences are present in their DNA, the size is directly proportional to its number of genes. In case of eukaryoties this scenario is completely different. Their genome size is more larger than number of genes which are present in that organism these are due to presence of non coding regions between the genes or with in the genes. Those genes are reffered as split genes.

You are purifying bacterial chromosomal DNA to send off for genome sequencing. The estimated genome size of your organism is 4 Mbp and you know that the average MW of a base pair is 660 Daltons. You have isolated 1 microg of genomic DNA, how many moles of DNA are in your sample? If you resuspended the chromosomal DNA in 50 microL, what would be the final concentration of the DNA?
